Our Mission:

  • To create awareness and support within the community for the humane treatment of all animals.
  • To end the problem of animal overpopulation within the community by promoting spaying and neutering.
  • To provide care and shelter for homeless, needy and feral animals.

Our Programs

Placement / adoption services. We offer these services for cats, dogs, rabbits and other small animals, providing referrals when we are unable to help directly.

We always have more animals under our care than there are homes to house them. If you'd like to invite a furry presence into your home, let us know or visit our adoptions page. If we don't have the animal for you, we can refer you to the shelter that has one (or maybe even two). Also, through a growing network of foster homes, we provide care for cats. No animals are killed because their time to find a home has run out. We also have a number of resident cats who are not suitable for adoptions. See our sponsorship page to find out how you can help these members of our family, or read about our medical fund, which helps cats with costly medical needs.

We always need volunteers, supplies and donations to keep the shelter running (see our Wish List).

Cat Action Team Program. We are implementing humane management of feral cat colonies by trapping, neutering, vaccinating and providing ongoing care and food.

A community resource. We provide free information to the public upon request. Also assistance with humane trapping and loaning traps. We believe that a child who learns to interact humanely with domestic animals and wildlife, learns to humanely interact with all others who enter their lives. Education is the key to enlightenment. It is our goal to educate the public regarding the humane treatment of animals. NVHS also works to foster cooperative efforts with other area humane organizations, Animal Control Officers, Veterinarians, community groups and concerned individuals to maximize the efforts of all.

Our future hopes and dreams include:

A Sanctuary and expanded sheltering capabilities. To provide shelter to a larger number of animals, including a sanctuary where animals that are unadoptable, handicapped, imperfect or old may live out the rest of their lives peacefully and happily. If you'd like to help make this goal a reality please consider making a contribution to our Sanctuary Fund or a donation of property to NVHS. Donations are tax-deducible, land does not have to be in the immediate area. If you know of a building or plot of land, let us know.
